丂This paper examines the pictorial map of Yamato Province from the Siebold collection of Leiden University Library. Compared with three other known pictorial map of Yamato Province in terms of the name of the local lords, their arrangement in the list, crop yields by county, and so on described on the maps, it became clear that the map of Leiden was descended from the official map compiled by the Tokugawa Shogunate in the Shoho period (1640s). The survey also found that the map of Leiden was a copy which was more faithful to the lost original than the provincial map in the possession of the National Archives of Japan, although it was painted on a smaller scale.
